Corporate Plan Kumihimo Workshop (English and Japanese)(On-site available)

While it is often believed that kumihimo is an isolated activity, at Domyo, our cords pass through the hands of various artisans who specialize in each step, from preparing and dyeing the threads, all the way to the final touches. It is because every step is done in-house that we are able to offer activities for corporate settings and cultural interest groups, providing an opportunity for team-building and hands-on learning.

Braiding is a process of endless repetition. It requires the braider’s mind to be still and at peace, as distracting thoughts can strongly influence the final outcome, reflected in the cord as imperfections. While it is difficult to stop and take time for oneself in today’s society, perhaps our kumihimo workshops can provide a brief respite, making room for a tranquil mind and a moment of self-reflection.

Example 1: Company A (Manufacturing Industry)

Held a kumihimo workshop as part of training for those in managerial roles. We received feedback that the braiding process was similar to mindfulness meditation and that they felt it would help their ability to focus, reduce stress, and improve productivity.

Example 2: Company B (Hospitality Industry)

Held an all-day kumihimo workshop as a team-building activity for new starters. The morning group dyed the threads into original colors, while the afternoon group used these threads to braid bracelets. Feedback included that the experience taught them how to take each member’s input into account and that they were able to learn the importance of teamwork, especially when collaborating with other teams.
