The Heike Nokyo, created in the Heian period, is a collection of thirty-three scrolls of sutras dedicated to Itsukushima Shrine by Taira no Kiyomori, praying for the prosperity of the Heike clan.
The beautiful coloring of the facing part of the sutra scroll is expressed with Kōrai-gumi, which requires skill in both dyeing and assembling.
