Ueno Flagship Store Studio Tour (Includes Kumihimo Braiding Workshop)(English Only)

Domyo’s flagship store, located in the Ikenohata area of Ueno, has been in business since 1652. The current five-storey building, constructed in 2016, incorporates a traditional Japanese architectural style in its concrete structure, inspiring a sense of history whilst being modern, remaining functional while at the same time evocative. The upper floors contain a kumihimo archive, dyeing studio, design room, and workroom, and when a piece is completed, it is displayed for purchase in the shop on the ground level. This private tour invites you to take a behind-the-scenes look at workspaces and processes not ordinarily open for public viewing. You will be able to see the artisans at work and are free to ask them any questions you might have as you watch their demonstrations.

In addition, you will be able to braid your own Kumihimo item, which will be placed in a special box for you to take home.
